Our academy offers bootcamps in-person and online around the SHATRANJ.AI project, which is an artificial intelligence curriculum based on historic board games, particularly shatranj. The project is funded by the European Union Erasmus+ Key Action 2 Youth program.

The curriculum covers the topics of introductory Python programming, historical board game programming, adversarial search algorithms, board game puzzles such as Horse Tour, 8-queens, Dilaram’s mate, and Suli’s diamond, reinforcement learning on the chessboard, historical development of modern chess software such as Stockish and AlphaZero.

Mina Marefat is principal of Design Research in Washington, focusing on design and innovation. Architect, architectural historian and urban designer, her cities projects included working with the Chief Architect of Historic Monuments in France, the Historic Preservation Office of Washington DC and the City Administrator of Newark, NJ. She served as Education Director at the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in Geneva, as Senior Architectural Historian at the Smithsonian Institution, and as Research Associate at the National Gallery of Art.
